The Jesus who will defeat our enemies once and for all. The Jesus who will fulfill the longing in our hearts. The One we should all turn and follow. What that “ark” in the Old Testament sanctuary promised the faithful is perfectly fulfilled in the Lord Jesus Christ. Lifting up our eyes to heaven, we see Jesus the Mediator and Surety of that better covenant. He alone is the true “temple” and that not made with hands. In .

The progressive revelation of Jesus as Savior, Lord, and King by Austin E. Ridenour Download PDF EPUB FB2

Progressive revelation means that we who live in the new covenant era are blessed to know more about God’s plan and its outworking than those who lived under the old covenant. That does not mean, however, that we ignore the old covenant revelation, for Scripture cannot be broken (John ).

Progressive revelation means that God did not unfold His entire plan to humanity in the Book of Genesis or, for that matter, in the entire Old Testament. The Old Testament revelation, though accurate, is incomplete. The fullness of certain teachings cannot be found in the Old Testament.

Adam received a bit of God’s truth, and so did Noah; God spoke more fully to Abraham, unveiling more of himself and his purposes.

He revealed himself supremely in the Old Testament through Moses. Progressive revelation is a movement from truth to more truth and so to full truth. Some things were for their own time only, later to be set aside.

This principle of progressive revelation is evident in the Scriptures themselves. Paul told his audience on Mars Hill that in a former time God overlooked their ignorance, but now commands all men everywhere to repent (Acts ).

The majestic opening of the book of Hebrews outlines the various means of progressive revelation (Heb. - 2). At this point we come to a climactic place in the book of Revelation as it reveals the person of Jesus Christ, for now our Lord is presented as the victorious White Horse Rider who comes out of heaven and who is also King of kings and Lord of lords.

If you recall, in Revelation “the revelation of Jesus Christ” is the subject of this book. After Satan’s destruction is the final judgment of mankind, Revelation – salvation from this judgment is dependent on a person’s name being written in “the book of life” (Revelation ), which occurs by believing that Jesus Christ is both Lord (King) and Savior (cf.

The old view of the Bible was essentially correct when it said that the Old Testament is Jesus foreseen, the Gospels are Jesus come, the Epistles are Jesus explained, and the Revelation is Jesus expected—one great, eternal, agelong, developing, and climactic purpose with him as its beginning, middle, and end.

Chapter 19 narrates the climax of Revelation—the victorious return of Jesus. Everything leads us to or flows from this event, which terminates the Great Tribulation and begins the establishment of God's kingdom on earth. This is when God begins to answer what Jesus taught us to pray for (Matthew ).

Revelation is all about Jesus, about who He is, about what He has done for His people, and about what He will do for us at the end of time. Any focus on last-day events must keep Jesus front and center out of neces-sity, which is exactly what the book of Revelation does.
